Painting is my yoga

This post contains advertising. The color was provided to me by Kolorat.

Painting is my yoga. I've been thinking about this statement a lot in the last few days. While others need exercise or a day on the couch watching Netflix to unwind, I love putting on my painting clothes and swinging the brush. Maybe it's because you see a result straight after painting. In the best case, one that puts a big smile on your face.

This is exactly the smile that spread across my face last weekend. Felix and I dug our paint roller out of the basement and before we knew it, our office was emptied and taped off. We had set ourselves the goal for the weekend of turning our office into a room that people would enjoy spending time in. We had neglected the room since we moved in. It was painted straight away, but in a shade of grey that gave it a certain coolness. The white desk, the sofa bed, the large pin board and the String shelf underlined the whole thing. Cozy is different!

In addition, we recently put the String shelf on the wall in the bedroom. This made the office look even more lost. To be honest, I don't like the situation. After all, what is the point of having a third room if it turns into a cold junk room?

So we thought about how we could give the office a new look. We wanted to give the room, which is already difficult due to its sloping ceilings and the beam in the middle of the room, an urban, cozy look. What's the best way to do that? Put these factors in the foreground and let everything else disappear into the background. The best way to emphasize all of this is to bathe the whole room in a warm wall color. So we made up our minds: we needed a new wall color!

For some time now, I've been seeing a lot of photos saved on Instagram of rooms painted in greige. A warm grey-beige that is beautifully accentuated when combined with natural tones. This is exactly the kind of look we want for our office! After all, basic coziness should start with the wall colour and not just with the furniture and decoration.

However, I can't deny that I had a bit of a stomach ache about it. After all, I've always been the one who prefers cooler tones. But as the saying goes, you have to leave your comfort zone sometimes. So we clicked through the beige tones at the paint supplier Kolorat and put together a small selection, for which we had a color card sent to us at home. When we received this, it was pretty quickly clear which color we wanted for our office. K/8-14-22-14/T was to be our color code for office happiness.

But the wall color is not enough. As already mentioned, the goal of our redesign was to emphasize the look of the room and put everything else in the background. For this reason, we knew from the start that the cabinets in the office should be painted the same color as the wall. Luckily, Kolorat has the right paint for every wall color. Good thing!

"Sarah, how did you do it?" I was asked this question a lot last weekend. The answer is easy: We first painted the cabinets (in this case IVAR from IKEA) with a primer, let them dry and then sanded them for the first time. Then we applied the first coat of varnish, let them dry, sanded them again and then painted them for the second time. That's it!

Walls painted, cupboards painted and one more thing had to be done: the ceiling! Felix and I initially disagreed about whether the ceiling should be painted, but now I'm really happy that I was able to persuade him to do it. Cozy level times a thousand! A tip that I can only recommend to you and which has made me want to paint the ceiling in the bedroom ever since.

After a week with the new look, I still have a big grin on my face as soon as I enter the office. We managed to make the room more cozy just by changing the color of the walls. The whole thing is underlined by the partially new furniture, which I will tell you more about next week.
