DIY String Shelf

The String shelf, a classic that is popular with many and has been hanging in my apartment for years. I have to admit, however, that in my case only the wall ladders are the originals from String and I got the shelves from the hardware store. At the time, I and my wallet were simply not prepared to pay the price of €500 for my desired String combination. I see things differently now, but when I was shown years ago how the price was made up, namely €176 for the wall ladders and €324 for the shelves, I had to swallow hard.

But since I was already a bit of a fox back then, I thought that you could get normal shelves in any hardware store and that I could definitely save money on that part. I also remembered that I had read a blog post by the lovely Johanna from mintundmeer in which she was looking for an alternative solution to her dream of a String shelf. She helped me find out which online shop was best for finding the brackets for the shelves. With all this information, I was able to get started and build a cheaper version of my String shelf. In the end, I paid around €200 for my shelf and I'm still completely happy with it! I have to admit, though, that the boards from the hardware store aren't the highest quality and that you'll definitely get more out of String in the long run. But of course everyone has to decide for themselves whether they're happy with the boards from the hardware store or whether they'd rather go for the originals. There's definitely a difference, that can't be denied!
