I'm one of those people who quickly get one of the following two feelings as soon as they change something in their apartment: "I think that's crap" or "I'm going to fall over, that's awesome!" So far, luckily, the latter has prevailed for me and the same thing happened recently when I painted my kitchen with Kalklitir paint. Kalki...what? That seemed to be the question I was asked most often as soon as I told them what I was planning to do with my kitchen.
As the name suggests, Kalklitir is a lime paint. The special thing about it is that it is applied with a brush rather than a paint roller. The reason for this is that you don't want to create a uniform look, but rather create unevenness. Depending on which variant you use, the wall will either have a cloudy look or a used concrete look.
I chose the second option. I have to admit that I've been thinking about painting one of my walls in a concrete look for a while, but I had originally planned to paint my current living room. But somehow it wasn't meant to be that room and I'm even happier today that I chose the kitchen. To be honest, the color suits the room like a glove. It's as if my kitchen had just been waiting to finally be painted that color haha .
To be honest, I was a bit overwhelmed at first when it came to choosing the colors. There are so many different colors to choose from and I couldn't imagine how most of them would look on the wall. What helped me was Instagram. On Kalklitir's website, you can find lots of pictures with the color used noted in the caption. Good thing! In the end, I decided on two colors that I mixed together: Concrete and Concrete Primo!
The paints come in a 1kg bag, which then has to be mixed with 1.7 liters of cold tap water. Then it's a matter of stirring, stirring, stirring for 10 minutes! Since I mixed two bags together, that meant twice the amount of water. To be honest: while stirring, I wondered what I was going to do with so much liquid lime paint. In retrospect, I can tell you: there was a maximum of 200ml left over. I wouldn't have thought that at first either!
And then comes the part where I asked myself what kind of crap I was actually making haha . The painting! In a way it makes sense that you can't paint evenly if you want the wall to have an uneven look. Sounds good in theory, but when you put it into practice it makes you doubt yourself a little, as the wall looks completely spotty at first. What can be said, however, is that painting is so easy-peasy that you simply can't go wrong! So put layer 1 on the wall and wait 2-6 hours until the wall is completely dry and the second layer can be applied. In my case that meant 2 hours of draft so that I could use the daylight to apply the second layer.
Well, and then I had to wait. Until the next morning. I'm particularly good at that. Not. I even woke up before my alarm clock on Saturday because I could hardly wait to see the result. And what can I say? In love! The result is so incredibly beautiful and gives my kitchen a completely different look. I'm so happy with the result and can really only recommend it to everyone! Some people have asked me directly on Instagram how the paint feels and whether it comes off easily. I can reassure you: nothing comes off! Really great!
By the way, the Kalklitir homepage was extremely helpful to me, as there are videos there that show the two different stroking techniques and answer all kinds of questions. Just to let you know.
