Hey little man! #babyshowerparty

The baby boom has also reached my circle of friends and one of my dearest friends is going to be a mother soon. I still can't understand it and I can remember the moment she told me the news all too well! Our plan was to eat cake at Kropkå. However, as she was no longer allowed to eat everything at that point, she was a bit picky about the cake she chose. Now you're probably thinking that this was the moment when I could have seen it as a possible sign of pregnancy. But no, I have to disappoint you! Unfortunately, I often walk around the world blind and therefore don't notice some of the things that are happening around me. So the story continued with Kathrin from Kropkå accidentally bringing us two pieces of cake, even though Laura (=mommy to be) had actually decided against a piece of cake because she wasn't allowed to eat any of them due to certain ingredients. You have to know: Laura loves cake! It wasn't until I had finished my piece and she hadn't even touched hers that I briefly wondered if she was sick. The rest of the conversation went something like this:

“Aren’t you hungry?”
"I can't eat the cake..."
"Huh, why did you want to come here then?"
“Well, I’m not allowed to eat THIS cake!”
“Huh, I don’t understand!”
I think about it for what feels like an eternity, Laura looks at me with a grin. After what feels like an eternity, it finally clicks for me.
"OMG!!! I'm freaking out! You're pregnant!"
“Yup…”
Piss in the eyes, hugs and pure happiness.

Her pregnancy feels like it's just flown by and not long now until the little baby boy comes into the world and gets the best parents he could wish for. Not to mention the cool aunt.

To live up to the title of cool aunt, I teamed up with another of Laura's close friends and we organized a baby shower behind her back. A trend that many people might shake their heads at and wonder why you would organize something like that. Especially before the little new inhabitant of the earth is even born. Does that make sense? Oh yes! And what sense it makes and I can only recommend it to everyone! The moment when Laura realized that I had led her to me under false pretenses and she realized that she had burst into her baby shower was worth its weight in gold! I'll just say this much: there were a few tears of joy (from all of us!). Many friends traveled from far away to spend this day with her and that is exactly the reason why I would always recommend a baby shower. A day on which she and her belly were the center of attention and everyone enjoyed the time together to the fullest! Good thing!

A group was set up on Facebook beforehand to find out which friends could attend on the day in question. Fortunately, most of them were able to attend, so we could plan the part that I was really keen on: the decorations! I finally had the chance to go crazy with the colors and transform my place into a children's room. Happy me! In my head I was already imagining pom poms and balloons in blue, mint and silver hanging on the walls and ceiling. As a gift for the little one, we chose the Granit teepee. In this context, I have to mention that we actually wanted to give Laura a so-called "nest", but the lovely lady put a stop to our plans. Laura briefly went on a shopping spree during her maternity leave and bought herself everything that we had on our list as possible gift ideas. Thank you very much for that too! So we decided on the teepee, because we knew that she would like to have it, but didn't want to buy it at the moment because "it doesn't make sense in itself". Pointless gifts with a decorative aspect? Welcome to my world! The teepee was already in my shopping cart!

Let's get to the decorations! I bought the balloons from Happy Ballon on Eppendorfer Weg and most of the rest of the decorations from Søstrene Grene. I looked for alternatives online for you. As a further tip, I can recommend buying postcards and then stringing them onto a cord. This way you can make an individual garland.

The day for the surprise party plus the gift and decorations were ready for her big effort. But what was still missing? That's right, the food! Luckily, Laura's other lovely friend (Jules) is a cooking genius and so took over this part. Phew, that solved the problem and food was also taken care of! So all we had to do was keep our mouths shut so that Laura really didn't hear about all the fuss. And let me tell you something? That wasn't easy, especially because I live just one street away from her and there were several situations in which she could have found out. One of these was the situation where dear Jules, who actually lives in Mexico, was in Hamburg earlier than expected to help me with the shopping and decorations. If Laura had seen us together, the cat would have been out of the bag. But once again we were more lucky than smart and were able to organize everything quietly and secretly without getting caught.

While you are reading this, it has already been a week since this wonderful and relaxed day with great people and a happy mommy-to-be. And since I have already let you take part in it a little on Instagram, I have given you a little overview in this blog post of where I bought which decorative items and where you can find similar styles. Laura has also put together possible gifts for soon-to-be mommies (good to know, I'm a little fox! Hehe).

Oh, and now I can hardly wait to get to know the little rascal and, above all, to accompany the expectant parents in this wonderful new phase of life!
