4 Advent wreath ideas for cozy Christmas

The temperatures are getting colder, the thick winter jacket is a must, and you can hear the first Christmas songs on the radio. There is no denying that Christmas is just around the corner and the coming weeks will be all about gingerbread, Advent wreaths, and "Last Christmas" on repeat. I can't deny that we have been missing the Christmas blues so much lately, and we are currently actually considering whether we should skip the Christmas decorations.

Are you gasping for breath now because you've been waiting in the starting blocks for a few weeks to completely escalate Christmas and celebrate the Christmas season to the fullest? Or are you also looking at the whole thing more critically and the Christmas decorations in the supermarket leave you completely cold? For weeks now, it feels like nothing else has been happening in my Instagram feed other than the question of how to decorate your home this year for Advent. Are you more of a Scandi type with clean colors and shapes or do you prefer things loud and colorful.

Last Christmas…

Last year I could hardly wait to choose our first Christmas tree together with Felix, to decorate it at home and to celebrate the Christmas feeling that comes with it. While we enjoyed the special atmosphere that a decorated Christmas tree created, Momo especially loved the stale water in the Christmas tree stand.

But what do you do when the Christmas spirit isn't there? Should you completely ignore any decorations like reindeer and Santa Clauses, or can you somehow make the whole thing more minimalist? True to the motto "less is more", we only decided on an Advent wreath this year. We'll have a huge tree and lots of Christmas decorations in our house next year.

Our idea

However, since neither of us is the type for overly opulent decorations (what a surprise!), we looked for variants that don't require much but still have a wow effect. If you're currently still looking for an Advent wreath, but fir branches and lots of trinkets aren't your thing, then perhaps one of the following variants is something for you...

A completely different Advent wreath

With this “wreath” you could call us repeat offenders, since we had this variant last year too. Tried and tested and always good!

Required material:

  • tray
  • 4 bottles
  • eucalyptus
  • adhesive numbers
  • band
  • paper tags
  • taper candles

First, cut four pieces of eucalyptus and carefully fill them into the bottles. Then simply wrap the ribbon around the glass, number the tags and tie them tightly. Done!

Scandinavian clean Advent wreath

You're not so keen on greens? Then this version might be the right one for you.

Required material:

With this version, you have complete freedom as to how many of the wooden balls and small lanterns you want to place on the round tray. Simply place the candles in the middle and place the balls around them as desired.

The classic among us

Okay, if we're being completely honest: sometimes it just isn't possible to do without green.

Required material:

  • tray
  • block candles
  • olive branches
  • wire
  • rosehip branch or similar

Place the block candles on the tray. Then wrap the red flower around the olive branch with a wire and drape the whole thing in front of the candles on the tray. So simple, so good!

The Advent wreath that always fits!

If we're being completely honest, we'd love to have this Advent wreath on the table all the time. This version is so timeless!

Required material:

  • Round tray
  • ring that fits into the tray
  • block candles
  • olive branches
  • eucalyptus

First, drape the candles in the middle of the round tray. Then wrap the eucalyptus and olive branches around the wire ring. Here you can decide how thick you want the eucalyptus wreath to be.

Not too much, but still creates a cozy Christmas atmosphere. Good thing! Sometimes it doesn't take much to get that feeling.
